How to Install Foil-Tec Single and double – Floor Installation

Difficulty: Easy • 6 Steps

In this how-to guide, we demonstrate how to insulate your floors with Foil-Tec Single and Foil-Tec Double.

They are highly effective vapour control membranes that also provide thermal benefits.

Foil-Tec Single and Foil-Tec Double can be used independantly on the floor, to improve heat retention in your home, whilst protecting it from condensation.

Method Steps

  1. Roll out the Foil-Tec

Roll out the Foil-Tec over the joists, and make sure you overlap each layer by 100mm. With this overlap, you don't need to tape and seal it as these overlaps will act as vents to allow moisture to dissipate.

  2. Install Saddle Clips

To get the greatest performance out of Foil-Tec you need an air cavity eitherside of it. Installing Saddle Clips over the joists will hold the Foil-Tec in place and will provide you with an air cavity of 50mm. For every square metre of Foil-Tec you want to use 4 Saddle Clips. They can be installed with either a nail or a screw.

  3. However you can staple it in to place

The Saddle Clips are the best option to achieve a consistent air cavity and they are the best way to speed up the installation process. You can instead staple the Foil-Tec into place on either side of the joist at every 20cm interval.

  4. Install up to the wall

The Foil-Tec must be brought up the wall by 75mm behind the skirting board.

  5. Tape and Seal with ThermaSeal Foil Joining Tape

Tape and Seal around the perimeter of the Foil-Tec, do not tape and seal the overlaps between each join.

  6. Install Flooring

You can then install your flooring. With screws at 20mm ctres, 37mm into the joist.
