Ultra-Thin Foil-Tec Single Insulation

Foil-Tec Single Lite - Insulating Vapour Control Layer.

Our Foil-Tec Single Lite by YBS is a 2-in-1 Insulating VCL. 

The reflective product is fully certified for use on roofs, walls, and floors. It effectively controls condensation and air tightness, whilst offering excellent thermal benefits despite being only 1mm thick.

We advise using our Thermaseal Foil Joining Tape when installing Foil-Tec. By taping and sealing, it ensures the products work as a VCL. Furthermore, we advise the product to reflect into a cavity, before a service cavity and plasterboard.

For those of you going through building regulations - In a wall, the product has a certified R-Value of 0.74m2 K/W. This figure equates to the same performance as 32mm Mineral Wool whilst only being 1mm thick!

YBS Foil-Tec can also be used independently as an insulation membrane for floor applications. This product is often used alongside SuperQuilt Multifoil for additional thermal benefits.

Foil-Tec Single Lite - Insulating Vapour Control Layer is available to purchase online at the lowest trade prices. Foil-Tec insulation has been independently tested & certified by the BDA Kiwa Certificate of Agrement. 

The product is also UK Manufactured and has a Class 1 Surface Spread of Flame.

How to Install Foil-Tec Single and double – Wall Installation

  1. Roll out Foil-Tec

    Roll out Foil-Tec

    Start by rolling out Foil-Tec over the joists. It is recommended to roll the insulation perpendicular to the joists. Avoid cutting the length just yet, as the recess will use up extra material.

  2. Create a recess with Saddle Clips

    Create a recess with Saddle Clips

    Saddle Clips are important for keeping the insulation fixed in place, but additionally to create an even air cavity. Install Saddle Clips over the joists, which fits Foil-Tec snug around the timber. We recommend 4 Saddle Clips per m².

  3. Alternate method - using Staples

    Alternate method - using Staples

    An alternate method if you wish to avoid Saddle Clips is to staple. Staple Foil-Tec down the joists to create an air cavity.
    Tip - The further down the joists, the greater the thermal benefits! This is because an increased cavity will give an improved R-value.

  4. Overlapping Foil-Tec

    Overlapping Foil-Tec

    Overlap Foil-Tec by a minimum of 50mm, but not exceeding 100mm. This prevents any draughts. Ensure any overlaps are left un-taped, allowing any potential moisture build-up to escape properly.

  5. Ensure Foil-Tec is lipped up the walls

    Ensure Foil-Tec is lipped up the walls

    Around the perimeter, it is important to lip Foil-Tec up the wall by at least 50mm. This will generally be hidden by chipboard and skirting board, preventing draughts. Follow with Thermaseal Foil Tape around the perimeter.

  6. Finish by installing Chipboard

    Finish by installing Chipboard

    Once all the insulation is fixed down and recessed, you are now ready to install your finished floorboards.
