The Ultimate Floor Insulation

YBS SuperQuilt For Floors is the World’s Highest Performing EN-certified reflective Multifoil Insulation on the market.

The product has also been designed to Insulate Roofs, Walls, Floors, Loft Conversions, and Conservatories in less space and less time compared to traditional materials like Kingspan or Celotex.

What is YBS SuperQuilt Insulation?

YBS SuperQuilt For Floors is designed to save space on Floor Height by insulating your Floating, Suspended, or crawl space floor to Building Control Standards. It also effectively helps stop any moisture and drafts from rising into your living space.

YBS Insulation's SuperQuilt is manufactured in the UK using a combination of 19 layers of True Aluminium Foil, Wadding, and High-Density Foam. The product is an excellent space saver, because SuperQuilt is 40mm at a relaxed thickness, and compresses down to as little as 10mm.

SuperQuilt is BDA & LABC Certificated to meet Building Control and can usually achieve regulations in your floor application without any additional insulation, please see our free and user-friendly U-value calculator to find out more.

Please see our YBS SuperQuilt Fitting And Data Sheet to see how to insulate your Floor in less time and space than any other method.

We also offer SuperQuilt Insulation with a Lifetime Guarantee when installed with Genuine ThermaSeal Foil Joining Tape.

How-To Install Multifoil Insulation on Timber Floors

  1. Installing First Run of SuperQuilt

    Stapling SuperQuilt

SuperQuilt can be installed either vertically or horizontally, depending on rafter height. Staple SuperQuilt to the rafters at **300mm intervals**, keeping it taut to avoid sagging.

  2. Overlaps & Taping

    Taping SuperQuilt

Ensure all insulation joints have a **minimum 50mm overlap**. Fully tape and seal all overlaps using **Thermaseal Foil Joining Tape**.

  3. Eaves Detailing

    SuperQuilt Eaves Detailing

At the eaves, cut SuperQuilt around the rafters and seal it to the **cavity wall insulation or wall plate**. Tape and seal this area thoroughly to maintain an **airtight barrier**.

  4. Install Counter Battens

    Counter Battens

Fix **25mm x 38mm battens** at right angles to the rafters. Use deeper battens if necessary, and ensure battens are placed around **window perimeters**.

  5. Finish with Plasterboard

    Plasterboard Installation

Fix plasterboard to the battens using drywall screws. No **foiled-back plasterboard** is required, as SuperQuilt acts as a **vapour control layer** when fully taped and sealed.

  1. Setting up Timber Battens

    Fixing Timber Battens

Fix **25mm timber battens** to the solid wall at **400mm centers**. This creates the required **air cavity** for thermal performance.

  2. Stapling SuperQuilt

    Stapling SuperQuilt

Roll out **SuperQuilt Insulation** horizontally and staple it onto the battens. Ensure the material is pulled **tight and smooth**.

  3. Overlapping & Taping

    Sealing SuperQuilt

Ensure a **50mm overlap** between layers. Fully seal overlaps using **Thermaseal Foil Tape** to maintain airtightness.

  4. Installing Counter Battens

    Counter Battens

Fix **another set of 25mm battens** over the insulation at **400mm centers**. This creates a **double air cavity** for improved insulation.

  5. Installing Plasterboard

    Plasterboard Installation

Fix **plasterboard or internal cladding** onto the battens using drywall screws. This ensures a **smooth, professional finish**.

  1. Installing First Run of SuperQuilt

SuperQuilt can be **rolled out vertically or horizontally** along the concrete floor. Leave enough material at the edges to **protrude above the floor deck**. Ensure the concrete floor is **clean, flat, and free from debris**.

  2. Joints and Taping

Ensure SuperQuilt is **butt jointed** with other layers on both **verticals and horizontals**. Fully tape and seal all butt joints using **Thermaseal 75mm Foil Joining Tape**.

  3. Installing Battens

Lay **timber battens or joists** over the top of SuperQuilt. Ensure timbers are **evenly spaced** to suit the flooring type. SuperQuilt will **compress to around 7mm** under battens. Use **50mm minimum depth battens**, but **75mm or 100mm battens** provide better thermal benefits.

  4. Finish with Flooring

Install your **timber boarding floor** over the battens. Fix the decking at **200mm centers** using **37mm screws** into the joists or battens below.

  1. Install your first layer of BreatherQuilt

    Installing BreatherQuilt

Install **BreatherQuilt Insulation** externally on the pitched roof with the **reflective foil facing inward**. Start at the bottom of the rafters and **staple it at 300mm intervals**. Allow **sagging between rafters** for optimal performance, ensuring a **10mm gap** between the top layer of BreatherQuilt and the tile battens.

  2. Install next run(s) of BreatherQuilt

    Overlapping BreatherQuilt

Overlap the next layers by **100mm** and use the **Double-Sided Tape** on BreatherQuilt to secure them. Staple in place as before and tape **vertical butt joints** using **waterproof tape**.

  3. Install Tile Battens & Tiles

    Installing Tile Battens

Ensure **BreatherQuilt extends onto a suitable eaves carrier** at the eaves. Install **horizontal tile battens** on top of BreatherQuilt, then proceed with **installing tiles or slates**.

  4. Install the first layer of SuperQuilt

    First Layer of SuperQuilt

Install **SuperQuilt** on the internal side, recessed **25mm between rafters** and stapled onto the battens. Pull the material **tight and fix it to the opposite rafter**. Fully **tape and seal all overlaps and the perimeter**.

  5. Install the second layer of SuperQuilt

    Second Layer of SuperQuilt

Staple or nail the **second SuperQuilt layer** through the first layer into the rafters. Maintain a **50mm overlap**, leaving a **cavity between the two layers**. Ensure **full taping and sealing** using **Thermaseal Foil Joining Tape**.

  6. Apply a layer of Timber Battens

    Installing Timber Battens

Fix **timber battens** (min **25mm depth**) at **400mm centers**. This ensures **SuperQuilt reflects heat properly** for optimal insulation.

  7. Internal Finishing

    Plasterboard Installation

Install **min 25mm battens** over the insulation (cross-battening recommended). Finish with **12.5mm plasterboard**, secured onto the battens. **SuperQuilt acts as a high-performance Vapour Control Layer**, so no additional VCL is needed.

What does SuperQuilt consist of?

SuperQuilt consists of 19 itch-free layers including True Aluminium Foils as the Outer and Inner layer. The other 17 layers consists of recycled waddings, PE Foams, and other reflective foils.

Is SuperQuilt harmful?

SuperQuilt contains no harmful fibres and does not release any toxic gasses when cut or installed. When installing SuperQuilt, there is no requirement for any masks, PPE or gloves.

What thickness is SuperQuilt?

SuperQuilt is available in just one thickness, which is 40mm at a relaxed thickness and will compress down to 7mm.

Do SuperQuilt require airgaps?

To gain the best thermal performance, we recommend a minimum cavity/batten of 25mm both sides of the insulation. This is to allow the product to expand and reflect. If a cavity is removed, the performance would reduce by approx 20%.

Is SuperQuilt fireproof?

SuperQuilt has a Class E Euro Fire Classification Certificate. SuperQuilt is not fully fire-proof, however the true aluminium outer layers are flame proof, meaning if a naked flame touches the product, it will smoulder as opposed to spreading.

What’s the difference between SuperQuilt and SuperFoil?

SuperQuilt is a premium product with true aluminium foils as the outer layers, compared to SuperFoil’s range which has metalized foils which provides a lower Fire Classification Grade (Fail) SuperQuilt is also fully certified, and UK manufactured compared to SuperFoil.

Does SuperQuilt achieve building regulations?

In some applications SuperQuilt will achieve building regulations stand-alone. In Roofs and Walls, you may need to use additional insulation alongside SuperQuilt to achieve your desired U-value.

Can SuperQuilt be used on External side of Walls?

SuperQuilt is suitable for insulating on both the internal and external of solid walls. Please ensure there is a min batten of 25mm both sides of the insulation.
